The Rose Parade is acclaimed as one of the top three New Year festivals in the U.S. The 2022 Rose Parade was held with much fanfare in Pasadena, Los Angeles with China Airlines named as “International Award” again this year. The theme for the China Airlines float was “Biking Around Taiwan.” Through a family exploring the natural beauty and culture of Taiwan on bicycles, China Airlines showcases the diverse landscapes of Taiwan on the international stage. This representation also brings hope that international visitors will once again come to Taiwan when border restrictions are lifted.
A family biking around Taiwan was chosen as the theme for this year's 55 feet long, 18 feet wide and 25 feet high float. During their journey, they encounter the Forest Railway on Alishan, taste Taiwan’s braised pork on rice and bubble milk tea, and wander among the “Snow in May” of Tung blossoms against a backdrop of pineapples and mangoes grown in the fruit kingdom. The overall presentation used animated cartoon designs to capture the attention of the audience.
Although the 2021 Rose Parade was canceled due to COVID-19, the event made a return this year thanks to growing vaccination rates. China Airlines invited employees and their families to join in the fun, with cyclists following alongside the float during the parade. The design concept of a family exploring and learning about new cultures on bicycles fit well with this year’s parade theme of “Dream. Believe. Achieve” and shows that China Airlines is ready to welcome visitors to Taiwan once COVID-19 subsides.
China Airlines has participated in the annual “U.S. Rose Parade” since 1987, winning a record-breaking 30 awards. This year, the carrier partnered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the MOTC Tourism Bureau once again, and was the only airline to receive an award. China Airlines continues its mission to promote the diverse culture of Taiwan and introduce the beautiful island to more people around the world.
