China Airlines Wins Silver Award at 2024 Taipei Golden Eagle Micro Movie Festival

The results from the 2024 Taipei Golden Eagle Micro Movie Festival have been announced, “The Sustainable Flight Challenge 2023” by China Airlines, the Taiwan-based carrier, stood out from more than one hundred finalists in the Sustainable Micro Movies category to win the Silver Award, adding another feather in China Airlines’ sustainability action cap.
“The Sustainable Flight Challenge 2023” documented China Airlines’ participation in the second Sustainable Flight Challenge (TSFC), a friendly competition organized by the SkyTeam. The film focused on the round trip sustainability demonstration flight between Taipei and Singapore on May 22, 2023. China Airlines was the first Taiwanese carrier to use Sustainable Aviation Fuel on a passenger-carrying flight. The flight featured low-carbon operations and net zero carbon emissions, and Michelin Green Star plant-based meals in all cabin classes for the Taipei departure. The Documentary faithfully capture the months of preparation, eventual outcome, as well as communication of the innovative ESG approach and commitment to environmental sustainability of China Airlines. The demonstration flight proved not only overwhelmingly popular with travelers but won the twin awards for Best Inflight Supply Chain and Best Adopted Solution.
The 2024 Taipei Golden Eagle Micro Movie Festival is sponsored by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy. The name Golden Eagle was chosen to symbolize meticulous attention to detail. Chairman Homme Tsai and President Jiun-wei Lu from the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) and Chairman Eugene Chien from TAISE were invited to present the awards at the ceremony. The judging panel was made up of experts and academics from related fields including Director Khan Lee, the veteran film-maker. The awards hope to encourage the use of micro movies in society as an accessible, diverse and interesting visual medium to communicate how businesses are putting sustainability and social responsibility into practice.
As the leading airline in Taiwan, China Airlines’ successes in its ongoing promotion of ESG, the focus on creation of sustainable corporate competitiveness, and the active cultivation of corporate sustainability governance have received extensive domestic and international recognition. Such recognition includes being named a constituent stock in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) - Emerging Markets for eight consecutive years (the only Taiwanese carrier to be included), and strong performance at the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) for ten consecutive years. In 2023, China Airlines was presented with the top award at The Most Prestigious Sustainability Awards - Top Ten Domestic Companies Award for the first time. In 2024, China Airlines became the first Taiwanese carrier to pass the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) review.
