SAF Collaboration Project

The anticipated SAF procurement in 2025 already fulfills our short-term target of 0.5%

As the first airline in Taiwan to utilize Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) during aircraft ferry flights, China Airlines launched its SAF Collaboration Project in 2024. Through this initiative, we partnered with leading net-zero enterprises—including Hunglin, CTBC Bank, and TSMC—to advance toward a major milestone in SAF commercialization.
In 2025, China Airlines further signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Formosa Petrochemical Corporation to procure over 2,500 tons of domestically produced SAF, certified under the ISCC CORSIA international standard, strengthening local feedstock sourcing and technological development capabilities.

China Airlines has collaborated with renowned brands such as MOSCHINO, Roots, and Moroccanoil to create environmentally friendly travel kits. From the design of the bag and its contents to the packaging materials, every detail reflects a commitment to sustainability.
The kits incorporate recycled plastic materials in the bag itself, as well as in the bottles of personal care products, eye masks, combs, and luggage tags. Toothbrushes are made from wheat-based materials, while the pouches for personal care items use PLA (polylactic acid), and the outer packaging of the kits is made from CPE biodegradable plastic.
Additionally, the paper belly bands, wax paper packaging for dental kits, kraft boxes for earplugs, and paper cards are all made from FSC-certified materials sourced from legally and responsibly managed forests—reducing waste generation and minimizing the environmental impact of both the products and their packaging.

Achieving Zero Food Waste in the Park

From August to December 2024, 3.6 metric tons of food waste were processed and repurposed.

China Airlines invested in two commercial food waste machines in mid-2024, which have been in operation since August 1, effectively handling food waste generated in the park. This commercial food waste machine employs heating, dehydration, and grinding methods for processing, as opposed to traditional enzyme degradation or chemical decomposition techniques. This approach further reduces environmental impact, and the process generates almost no odor. The food waste residue after processing is reduced by approximately 90% in volume compared to the original food waste. It is primarily used for on-site composting and horticultural soil enhancement, achieving 100% circularity with zero waste and fully supporting the goals of waste reduction and resource optimization.

Civic Collaboration to Co-Create an Ecological Journey

The reforestation project has received certification under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Sustainable Forest Management standards

China Airlines has adopted 5.25 hectares of forest land in Nanzhuang, Miaoli, collaborating with the local Saisiyat Tribe on reforestation and nurturing efforts. A total of 4,250 native Taiwania trees (Taiwania cryptomerioides) were planted. We also support sustainable tourism by engaging the Saisiyat Tribe to maintain the Jiali Mountain Trail.

China Airlines will host a running event on Saturday, October 11, at Dajia Riverside Park in Taipei. The event features a half marathon (21K), a fun run (10K), and a family run (5K). We have invited charity groups, including runners with disabilities and their guides, to join the celebration.

Combining health and entertainment, music refreshment stations will be set up along the course.
